North Wales Management School online MSc programmes are designed to be affordable. Tuition fees are calculated per eight-week module. You can enrol in, and pay for, each consecutive module as your studies progress. Payment is accepted through the online student portal and must meet the payment deadline.
This module introduces educational psychology and discusses the range of learners, contexts, and situations that educational psychologists work with. Theory, empirical evidence, and vignettes illustrate how educational psychologists can make an impact on young people’s experiences within the school environment. Aspects of cognition, learning, and instruction are covered, as well as social, emotional, and behavioural issues in school.
You will become familiar with psychological theories and their application and relevance to professional practice, and develop an understanding of how they can be applied to enhance the experiences of individuals in a learning environment. You will develop an appreciation of the ethical application of psychometric testing for educational purposes and learn to take a problem-based approach, applying critical thinking and evidence-based solutions to link theory with practice.
This module covers additional learning needs and giftedness. Theory, empirical evidence, and vignettes illustrate how educational psychologists can address special needs and giftedness within the school environment where every student is unique and entitled to an inclusive education. This module will discuss best practice in identifying and supporting students with special needs and/or giftedness against the background of special education policies and practices.
This module introduces child and adolescent development and the wide ranging biological, psychological, and social factors which influence and impact on development. You will gain an understanding of the impact of development on children’s performance and behaviour in school. Individual differences will be discussed and methods for gaining knowledge about each pupil’s individual circumstances will be introduced.
Theory, empirical evidence, and real-life examples will illustrate how educational psychologists can make a positive impact on pupil’s experiences within the school environment. You will learn how brain development, attention, memory, language, personality, identity, moral and social development are all subject to individual differences. You will be encouraged to apply theories of cognitive development and developmental psychology to case studies and vignettes, and will develop an appreciation of the ethical application of psychometric testing for educational purposes.
This module introduces you to behaviour disorders and investigates the concept of resilience in relation to maladaptive behaviour. It is constructed around five recurrent themes which provide the foundation for understanding abnormal behaviour from a developmental perspective.
You will gain an understanding of risk and protective factors and how resilience can be built and supported. You will develop an understanding of how theoretical knowledge can be applied to educational practice, and will develop an understanding of assessment and evaluation of maladaptive behaviour and resilience.
Topics in Health Psychology aims to equip you with a knowledge and understanding of the role of social, psychological, and biological factors on physical and mental health, illness, and wellbeing within the context of the individual, contemporary society, and their relation to challenges in the workplace. The module encourages the development of a critical understanding of relevant theories and models of behavioural change. You will cover topics around health promotion, the impact of social media, and the impact and management of stress and chronic illness, which can be applied to strategic, informed management practices in business.
Quantitative Research Methods aims to provide you with the knowledge and understanding to approach quantitative methods and analysis in psychology. You will be rapidly brought up to speed on classical and contemporary methods and quantitative methodology, and learn how to select, carry out, and evaluate the application of statistical methods commonly applied in experimental and survey-based research.
Assessments in Psychology provides you with an overview of various means of collecting information using clinical and psychometric assessments. You will gain an understanding of the role and function of psychological assessments across applied settings. You will also learn how to evaluate the reliability and validity of a given measure and interpret data produced by these assessments.
Forensic Psychology provides a broad overview of the contribution that this field can make in justice systems. The module considers the nature of forensic psychology and the insights that it provides into understanding crime, police practices, and criminal proceedings in court.
Qualitative Research Methods aims to provide you with the knowledge and understanding to approach qualitative methods and analysis in psychology. You will be rapidly brought up to speed on classical and contemporary qualitative methodology and the underpinning philosophy that informs qualitative approaches. You will develop a range of practical skills pertinent to analysing text-based data from interviews and other sources.
This module supports you in developing an appropriate research proposal that will form the basis of the dissertation. It provides support and guidance on conducting a literature review, identifying and constructing an appropriate methodology, an introduction to available software, and development of a data analysis plan. You will also be required to submit an ethics application for feedback and approval before embarking on the research in the dissertation.
This module provides you with the opportunity to conduct your own, original research project that builds on the feedback received during the project proposal module.
